Abstract
|
|
|
A case of benign mixed tumor of the vagina is presented with a review of literature; so far only twelve cases of this type of the tumor are documented. This case appears to be the thirteenth one of vaginal benign mixed tumor. The tumor is almost
located
in or near the hymenal ring, so the origin is likely to be the paravestibular gland. All but one case were well circumscribed masses unconnected to the surface epithelium. They were composed of small, bland stromal type cell with spindle shaped
nuclei
usually containing islands of mature squamous cells and glands lined by mucinous epithelium. The hystogenesis is not clear. Follow up studies have revealed benign nature and no evidence of recurrence or metastases after therapeutic local
excision.
